Winemaker Belinda van Eyssen and viticulturist Daniel McDonald launched The Cutting in 2018. The sustainability-driven family venture specialises in small-scale boutique production of Shiraz, Grenache and Cinsault, all single vineyard wines.
Belinda spent her formative winemaking years in the Winelands of South Africa, France, Portugal, New Zealand and the US. Daniel spent his training in the vineyards of Australia’s Barossa Valley, with brief explorative sojourns to vineyards in Germany and the US. They met among the vines of Sonoma County in California before setting up a home and cellar in famed the Stone Well sub-region of the Barossa, the origin of The Cutting.
The Cutting vineyard is farmed sustainably with minimum inputs to ensure soil health and balanced vines. A large area of the property adjacent to the vineyard has been dedicated to restoring and planting native vegetation to increase biodiversity and native wildlife.
The single vineyard Shiraz has received several trophies and awards including trophies for Best Shiraz at the Marananga Wine Show. A gold medal for the 2018 Shiraz at the Barossa Wine Show and most recently a Gold Medal at the 2023 Barossa Wine Show for The Outlier Grenache.
The team offers personalised tastings hosted by the winemaker in their boutique winery and vineyard setting.
